It's hard to believe it's been almost 10 years since the bus first gassed up and heading out on the highway!
The show was started in January of 1999 on a small radio station in Sussex, NJ. Ralph Sutton had the idea of this show - and convinced a friend of his who was already in radio to do the show with him. They pitched the idea to the Program Director, who had just seen a reunion of Motley Crue stop traffic on MTV - so he figured what could it hurt.
At the time - bands like Def Leppard, Guns N Roses, and Motley Crue were seldom heard on the radio. So it was a bit of a chance for this PD to let the show debut - and that's why he put it on from 10pm to midnight on Sundays!
After 1 ratings book - the radio show shot to #1 in it's time slot, and tripled its audience share. The boys took the ratings, and their demo - to the #1 rock station in NJ - and debuted in August of 1999 as a 4 hour show. With a bigger radio station behind them - the Tour Bus started getting better guests, in studio performances, and premiering music before anyone else (3 things The Tour Bus is most known for). 6 months later, the same thing happened! #1 in it's time slot!
Ralph decided to put together a package for possible syndication - and in March of 2000 - The Tour Bus signed a syndication deal.
Without going into too much detail (although if you find Ralph - ask him - he'd love to tell you the whole story) The Tour Bus switched syndication companies 3 times. Ralph was on Queer Eye For The Straight Guy in 2003 - which brought A LOT of attention to the show - and now - some 9 years later - the radio show is on over 50 stations and has become the show to go to when a Party Rock band has something to tell the masses!
So crank it up Tour Bus Passengers! and Keep Rockin' On The Tour Bus!
